A solid and beautiful desk stand to have on your Mac or PC setup for your smartphones (iPhones, Androids, etc.)
The first touch:
I have seen and used lots and lots of desk stand that were made for the everyday tech consumer. I liked a lot of them and hated a lot of them, some where to weak for my usage and broke off quickly, some even leaved residue on the back of my iPod that I could never get out. Those weren’t the most pleasant experiences, but I took another try, Laura from MobileFun sent me out their Stick it! Desk stand to check out. The first reaction I had when I saw the box: “Cheap chinese Luxa stand knock-off”. I opened the box with the lowest expectations, thinking it would just be as the other stands that I had a negative opinions on, but I took a look around it and tried it out for a couple of weeks..
These were my first impressions when I first used the stand with my iPod touch:
- It was really sturdy and solid. (Just like an iMac)
- I quickly understood on how to use it, nothing to assemble or anything.
- No sticky residue on the back of my iPod touch.
I started using the stand for a quite a while (around 2 months) as my main desk stand to have next to my monitor to check out my facebook, twitter, and e-mail. I also tried gaming on it and it worked as a charm, since it has a weighted base to prevent it from falling off, holding the iPod touch along with the stand was no problem to play games that use steering wheels.
The features:
The whole stand is made out of aluminum that isn’t too heavy or too light, along with a weighted base makes it impossible to fall over. The holder held a bracket that rotated 360 degrees to give you the ability to use your smartphone in portrait or landscape. You can also move the brackets upwards or downwards to give you an comfortable viewing angle. Stick it! has a sleek and minimalistic design, making it a perfect fit for those who have an iMac or Mac setup. The sticky is where the magic happens, putting your device on is too simple, just press onto the sticky pad on the bracket and you will have your smartphone on there really quickly. Removing it was also no issue as you can just pull it off to remove it, just easy as that. Most people worry that the sticky area will leave glue residue on the back of the handset, but you wont find that on here, as it doesn’t have any signs on that, but the sticky pad does attract quite a lot of dust, but its easy to clean just put it under warm water and clean it with a sponge or something similar will help you remove most of the dust.
The good & the bad:
Since I have been using it for a quite a while now, I have mixed opinions on it, mostly being positive. Here’s a list I compiled with Pros and Cons.
Pros:
- Price
- Sturdy and beautifully designed
- Cable management on the back
- Rotatable bracket (Rotates 360 degrees)
- Easy to use and absolutely no residue after usage
- Compatibility with all sorts of smartphones that are on the market
Cons:
- Scratches that are on the aluminum
- Stick pad attracts too much dust if not covered
The verdict:
If you’re an Mac user you’d definitely want to have this in your possession, especially for those who have iMacs, they’d make a beautiful combo. I just had this stand holding my iPod touch for months, to chat on iMessage, to talk to people on twitter and facebook, and I even watched some movies on my iPod touch while having Stick it! holding it. I just think that it is one of the ‘must have’s’ for tech geeks, it would also make a great birthday or Easter present. The price is just £14.95 or $23 that’s not pricey at all, considering other stands that have this style cost around $30. Let’s wrap up, this stand will be a great addition for tech enthusiasts and geeks, you can find this stand at MobileFun.co.uk at their mobile phone dockssection, they also have a lot of great accessories there.
